the launch of the

SOCIAL EDUCATORS’ ASSOCIATION OF QUEENSLAND

Formerly the Studies of Society and Environment Association of Queensland (SOSEAQ), this association has re-invented itself in response to the new curriculum arrangements of the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). In future our focus will be on the curriculum for Civics and Citizenship, as well as the three cross-curriculum priorities and the last four general capabilities. The theme of civics and citizenship can be seen in the choice of the two guest speakers for our launch.

PROGRAM:

  • Nibbles and drinks. (ACU preservice teachers will share some of their work)
  • Welcome to Country
  • Launch of SEAQ by the Honorable Fiona Simpson, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. She is the Parliament’s first female Speaker in its 150 years’ existence.
  • Welcome and overview by the SEAQ President, Dr Joy Kennedy
  • Guest speaker: Dr Paul Williams, Senior Lecturer in Politics, Griffith University
