Harmony Day can be a context for exploring  the topics of identity, community and participating in an interconnected world. 

The Australian Curriculum has embedded Inter-cultural Understanding as a General Capability of all students and one of the key ideas of the Humanities and Social Sciences learning area is about  'The ways people, places, ideas and events are perceived and connected'. 

 To extend this intention of the curriculum, year level focus questions guide teaching in this area. Below are some of these focus questions.:

• Year 3 ' How can I participate in my Community?'
  
• Year 4 ' How has my identity been shaped by the groups to which I belong?'
  
• Year 5 ' How and why do people participate in groups to achieve shared goals?'
  
• Year 6 ' What does it mean to be an Australian Citizen?'

• Year 9 ' How do citizens participate in an interconnected world?'
